Braces in 40s with receding gum, badly crooked teeth and lots of filling.?

Reading past posts, i understand there is no max age for wearing braces, however i have receding gum issue (dentists told me) and quite bad crooked teeth. Also most of my mollars have filling. In short, mines are in pretty bad shape and surely will require lots of work, time and cause PAIN. Hence, I wonder if it's worth it as i'm 40yo. FYI, I had one wisdom teeth which was immediately removed. Anybody has almost similar experience ? Appreciate any feedback and sharing. Thank you.
