If someone threatened my son and then I said something back to them what would happen to me?

My son's girlfriend said she ordered a friend of hers to gun my son down. She is not right in the head. I am in fear for him. I in turn said something threatening to her on a voicemail message but I also said in that same message that she has no right to have my son shot . I left another message that only said that she needs phychological help for wanting my son gunned down. She is doing all this for attention. My son called me and wanted to know why I said what I said. I told him, "because you told me she was having someone gun you down " , I told him. I know that it was wrong and stupid for me to get involved and babyish. I was just so angry at that person and worried for my son. My son called me and said that she is going to have me arrested for threatening her cat's life. I know that was really bad and wrong of me but I lashed out in my son's defense. I was not serious and just wanted to get her mad. I am sure she is just tickled pink that she started so much havoc . I am sure this is just what she wanted. Everyone says she is very controlling and his friends told him to get out of the relationship. My son is 23 and she is 32. Anyway what could happen to me ? no one knows where I live exactly; but they know the name of the town.
