Was this a miscarriage, I didn't know I was pregnant..?

From what I understand in my own reading, birth control cannot abort. Could you be talking about clots? I used to have heavy clotting before I started birth control when I was younger. It looked like a big clump on my pads. Maybe this is what you saw.
